Our proficiency levels

Beginner

This is our most elementary course, aimed at those who have e never studied Italian or have only gotten through the first couple Duolingo lessons. We will take you from Ciao, come va? to being able to introduce yourself and communicate in the most basic situations.

At the end of the course, you will be able to:
  • Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type
  • Introduce yourself and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, people you know and things you have
  • Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help

Intermediate

This is our most popular course, as it target all who have had some exposure to Italian but are not confident in most complex situations. The range of the students varies a lot, and the content of course will depend on the average proficiency level, but generally you will start to see more advanced grammar and expressions, and less familiar contexts.

At the end of the course, you will be able to:
  • Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment)
  • Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters
  • Describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need

Advanced

This is our most demanding course, but also the most rewarding! You will meet with other people that have already a substantial exposure to Italian, but want to refine it or keep it up-to-date. You will not only see more advanced language topics, but also discuss extract of cultural works written in Italian, giving you a true immersion in the cultural life of the Bel Paese.

At the end of the course, you will be able to:
  • Understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in your field of specialisation
  • Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party
  • Produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options
